Iran retaliates after fresh US strikes as Trump claims America has ‘almost total control’ of the strategic waterway
Washington: US President Donald Trump has issued a fresh and stark warning to Iran, saying that “very little” of the Islamic Republic could be left if Tehran retaliates against the latest American strikes near the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump issued the warning after the United States launched fresh attacks on Iranian targets, marking another major escalation in the ongoing US-Iran conflict. Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting American-linked positions across the region.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump warned that any Iranian retaliation would trigger a much stronger US response. He said an even larger attack was “waiting in the wings” and could leave very little of Iran remaining.
US Launches Fresh Strikes Near Strait Of Hormuz
The latest escalation follows US military action near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime route connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman.
According to the report, the US strikes came after Washington accused Iran of attempting to place mines in the waterway and following an earlier attack on a US military base.
Iranian state television reported explosions in southern Iran, including areas near the Strait of Hormuz and an island in the Gulf. Explosions were also reported at an airport in Kerman province.
The developments have raised concerns about a wider regional confrontation, particularly because the Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important routes for global energy supplies.
Iran Launches Missile Attacks
Iran responded to the US strikes with attacks on American interests in the region.
Iranian state media reported ballistic missile attacks against US bases in Jordan. Jordan’s military said it intercepted 10 Iranian ballistic missiles, although it did not immediately report casualties from those attacks.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also claimed that its forces carried out missile and drone attacks against American positions in Erbil, northern Iraq. However, the claims had not been independently confirmed by Iraq or the United States.
The escalation has also affected commercial shipping. Two oil tankers carrying Saudi crude through the Strait of Hormuz were reportedly struck by unidentified projectiles, adding to concerns over the safety of vessels using the crucial route.

The renewed fighting has already rattled energy markets. Brent crude settled at $94.65 a barrel on Tuesday, marking a 4.6% increase, according to the report.
With Iran threatening retaliation and the US warning of further military action, concerns are growing that the conflict could spread across the Middle East.
For now, the Strait of Hormuz remains at the centre of the confrontation. Any prolonged disruption to the waterway could affect oil supplies, shipping costs and economies far beyond the region.
The latest exchange of threats and attacks marks a dangerous new phase in the US-Iran war, with the possibility of further escalation still looming.
